Rudraksha. Powerful sacred seeds.

derives from Sanskrit rudra-Aksha , eye or tear Rudra ( Shiva). Scientific name: Elaeocarpus ganitrus . The Rudraksha tree is tall, broad leaves, grows in the foothills of the Himalayas. Also found in central Nepal. Rudraksha seeds are covered by a blue shell when fully ripe. For this they are sometimes called "blueberry seeds." The seeds show some kind of grooves on its surface, and are classified according to the number of slots or divisions that show. The most common is the five faces, representing Shiva as one of its expansions, Kalagni .

is told in the scriptures that Shiva fought the demon named Tripura who could not be defeated by anyone. Shiva invoked weapon called Aghora , a terrible weapon of fire, which destroyed the demon. For a long time later, Shiva was meditating with eyes open in the weapon Aghora , overseeing the welfare of everyone in the universe. For this reason His eyes were affected and shed tears. Such tears grew Rudraksha tree for the welfare of all human and demigods.

Rudraksha accounts are 28 varieties. of surya netra (right eye), which symbolizes the sun, there are 12 varieties, and soma netra (left eye ) there are 16 varieties.

From then Rudraksha tree grown in the land of Gauda , Shiva's favorite (from the foothills of the Himalayas and central Nepal to eastern India). Still, this tree is also found in Bhutan, Myanmar and Indonesia.
