Meaning of Om Shanti prayer

Every time we sing " om, Shanti, Shanti shantih ..." after a mantra a Vedic origin, we are clearly making a specific request for peace. But first would have to be account of what we mean. Someone defined peace as " the space between two wars " nothing further from the truth. Sai Baba said in a public speech years ago: " many say" I want peace ", this message is well known. Messages are sent by letter, the letter goes into an envelope. The "I " and "I are the two sides of the envelope. When we receive an envelope, read the letter, but discard the rest. The "I " and "I ", ie the selfishness and greed is what has to be discarded in order to obtain "peace " .

always at the end of a mantra extracted from the Vedas sing the om and three times the word shanti - peace - singular case, this is " shantih. " I have heard many versions about the meaning of this final prayer, but none as successful and logical as it follows:

In the world there are three types of suffering, called kleshas , and these are:

  1. Adhi-daivika klesha : Caused by devas or demigods, deities in charge of different aspects of nature. They cause us suffering in the form of natural disasters such as storms, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, droughts, heat waves or cold, etc. Given the magnitude of these natural phenomena mankind feel totally powerless, subjugated by the power of nature.
  2. Adhi-bhautika klesha : Caused by bhutas , or beings. From mosquitoes or viruses to annoying neighbors, corrupt politicians or simple thieves, some living beings sometimes make our lives impossible.
  3. Adhi-atmika klesha : Suffering caused by self (atma ). Mental problems, depression, anxiety and stress are the order of the day from time immemorial. The cave man feared for his survival, as well as people Media Age , fleeing persecution, invasion by enemies, hordes of barbarians and abusive tax collectors. In modern times, the refugees are counted million, and many people live imprisoned in their home behind bars, to protect themselves from insecurity. Anxiety, stress and anxiety are common from the earliest times of human on earth.

Suffering leads to another logical order : We know that in the case of a natural disaster, looting and riots may have several, and therefore, there is growing anxiety in oneself , so:

      We
    • peace in nature,
    • We
    • peace around us to convey that same feeling peace to those around us,
    • We
    • peace for ourselves. If you do not have inner peace, we can not give anything good to others.

This is the meaning of the prayer " om, Shanti, Shanti, Shanti " that must be recited with greater awareness as possible, taking into account the above points. Without the divinity in the shape of the surrounding nature, in the form of food, water and electricity, would perish immediately. So we are totally dependent Divinity.
