Behemoth is a Polish band formed in October 1991 in Gdansk, originally under the name Baphomet. In the early years his music was described as black metal since 1994 and paid metal, using recordings of acoustic guitar. Afterwards, the band started playing death metal, replacing the pagan themes in the occult and mythology of the Middle East. In the initial period of the band, with the collaboration of Robert Fudali (Graveland), the group was misclassified as NSBM.

The band's style has varied throughout his career, initially had a style all black metal, but was changed to become blackened death metal.
Nergal is the only original member of the band. Project began in 1990 with recordings of poor quality and Endless Damnation The Return of the Northern Moon, the most significant From the Pagan Vastlands was made in 1993, which showed the potential of Nergal as a writer and composer.


After signing a little-known Italian label called Entropy, the band recorded their first mini album entitled And the Forests Dream Eternally in 1994, followed by his official debut with the album Sventevith (Storming near the Baltic) made by the Polish label Pagan. This album gave the band international fame, and had the opportunity to sign with a German label and record their second album entitled Grom. With Grom the band had their first tour of Europe (Pagan Triumph tour 1996) and won approval from fans of the metal scene.
Then came the job
Pandemonic called Incantations, engraved with a new lineup which highlights the drummer Inferno, who was gradually changing the style of the band. This album show the quality of Behemoth, making it famous in Poland and other European countries. After an extensive tour in autumn 1998, the band would take a paper entitled Satanica. The success of this recording was reflected in the tours we had with Deicide and Satyricon. In this very successful period changes also come into the formation of the band.
